The Boy I Liked… Wasn’t Just a Classmate

In high school, there was a boy who caught my attention. He was quiet, kind, and had the kind of smile that could brighten my whole day. I didn’t think much of it at first—just a harmless crush.
We never talked, but I always noticed him. I’d find myself watching him in class, hoping he’d look my way. Sometimes, I thought he noticed me too. Then, one Monday morning, he disappeared from school.
No one knew where he went. He didn’t answer my messages, and his locker was empty. I kept wondering if I had done something wrong.
Months passed. I eventually graduated and moved on with my life, but I never forgot him.
Years later, while cleaning out a box from school, I found a piece of paper hidden inside one of my notebooks.
My hands started shaking when I recognized his handwriting.
It said, “I wanted to tell you something before I left, but I was too afraid.”
Then came the part I never expected.
He had known about my crush all along.
But the reason he disappeared had nothing to do with me.
He had been forced to leave town because of a family situation, and he had kept the note because he hoped that someday, our paths would cross again.
And years later, they finally did.
