My Daughter Recognized a Man She Had Never Met

She pointed at him and said, “I know him. This is the guy who used to watch me.”
I froze.
“What do you mean?” I asked gently.
She shrugged like it was the most ordinary thing in the world.
“He smiled at me from outside my window when I was little. Then he disappeared.”
My heart started pounding. She had never met this man. The photo had been buried in an old box for years, and I had never spoken about him to anyone, especially not to my daughter.
Trying to stay calm, I asked, “When did you see him?”
She thought for a moment.
“Before we moved into this house. I was in my old bedroom. He never came inside. He just looked at me and then walked away.”
I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was terribly wrong.
That evening, I called an old college friend who still kept in touch with my ex’s family. After a long silence, she told me something I never expected.
“He passed away almost two years before your daughter was born.”
A chill ran through my body.
I looked at my daughter, who was happily coloring at the kitchen table, completely unaware of the conversation.
To this day, I have no explanation for what happened. Maybe it was a child’s imagination. Maybe it was a strange coincidence. Or maybe some mysteries are simply never meant to be understood. Whatever the truth, I never looked at that old photograph the same way again.
