I cheated on my wife of 15 years and confessed. She got upset, but then she started acting strange. She cooked my favorite meals, left sweet notes in my lunch, and even smiled more than usual. At first, I thought she had forgiven me.
But then I noticed something else. Every week she visited a gynecologist. She never explained why, and whenever I asked, she simply said, “It’s personal.”
The mystery slowly drove me crazy. I checked receipts, searched her car, and even convinced myself she was secretly seeing someone else. Guilt mixed with paranoia until I could barely sleep at night.
One evening, I finally confronted her. “Tell me the truth,” I demanded. “What’s going on?”
She stared at me calmly, then smiled in a way I had never seen before.
“I’m pregnant,” she announced softly.
I froze. “Pregnant? But… after everything I did… you still want us to have another child?”
She laughed quietly and shook her head.
“Oh, this baby isn’t yours.”
The room went silent. My stomach dropped as the meaning hit me all at once. For the first time since my confession, I understood exactly how much pain I had caused her.
Then she picked up her suitcase, walked to the door, and said, “Now you know what betrayal feels like.”
