The Secret We Shared

She looked at me for a long moment before laughing nervously. “Maybe we’re both pregnant,” she joked. I forced a smile, but something about the way she said it made my stomach twist even more.

A few days later, I bought a test. Positive.

I was shocked, excited, terrified — all at once. When I told my twin sister, her face suddenly went pale. She sat down quietly and whispered, “I need to tell you something too.”

She pulled a small envelope from her bag. Inside were ultrasound photos.

“I’m pregnant too.”

We stared at each other in silence before bursting into tears and laughter. Neither of us had planned it. Neither of us expected our lives to change at the exact same moment.

But the strange part didn’t end there.

As the months passed, our symptoms stayed almost identical. If I craved oranges, she craved oranges. If she had back pain, mine started hours later. Even our doctors were amazed.

Then came the biggest surprise of all.

On the same night, only two rooms apart in the same hospital, we both went into labor early. After hours of chaos and panic, the nurses finally placed our babies beside us.

Two healthy girls.

And when we looked closer, both babies had the exact same tiny birthmark on their left shoulder.
