My Father Cut Me off After I Divorced the Man He Treated like a Son – 18 Years Later, He Still Hadn’t Apologized, but His Final Wish Made My Knees Go Weak

My father cut me off after I divorced the man he’d always treated like a son. Eighteen years later, he still hadn’t apologized—but his final wish left me speechless.
I married Luis when I was 19. We were high school sweethearts, convinced we’d spend our lives together.
My father adored him.
Sometimes it felt like Dad loved Luis more than me. They went fishing, watched games, and took road trips together. Luis became the son Dad never had.
Then I discovered Luis was cheating.
I couldn’t forgive him. I filed for divorce.
Dad took Luis’s side.
I explained everything. I cried and begged him to understand why I couldn’t stay married to someone who had betrayed me.
Instead, Dad said, “You’ve always been selfish. Luis deserves a wife who knows how to forgive.”
Then he cut me off.
For 18 years, we didn’t speak.
No apology. No phone calls. Nothing.
Eventually, I stopped hoping we’d reconcile.
Then, a few days ago, I received a call.
Dad was seriously ill and didn’t have much time left.
Despite everything, I couldn’t ignore him.
I went to see him for the first time in 18 years.
He looked older and weaker than I remembered.
We talked about the past, but he still didn’t apologize.
Then he reached for my hand.
“I have one final wish,” he whispered.
What he asked me to do next made my knees go weak.
It was something I never expected my father to ask.
