A 3-year-old boy sits near a pregnant woman.
Boy: “Why do you look so fat?”
Pregnant Woman: “I have a baby inside me.”
Boy: “Is it a good baby?”
Pregnant Woman: “Yes, it’s a very good baby.”
The little boy thought about that for a moment, staring at her belly with complete seriousness. The woman smiled, expecting another cute question about babies.
Instead, he tilted his head and asked:
“Then why did you eat it?”
For a second, the room went completely silent.
The pregnant woman blinked in surprise, and a nearby passenger nearly choked trying not to laugh. The boy’s mother covered her face, already knowing what was coming next.
“Oh no,” she whispered.
The little boy wasn’t trying to be rude. He genuinely thought that if the baby was inside her stomach, she must have swallowed it somehow.
The pregnant woman burst out laughing. Soon everyone around them was laughing too. Even the boy joined in, despite having no idea why his question was so funny.
His mother gently explained that babies don’t grow in a person’s stomach where food goes. They grow in a special place inside the mother’s body called the uterus.
The boy listened carefully and nodded.
A minute later he looked back at the pregnant woman and asked, “So when the baby comes out, can it talk right away?”
The woman laughed again.
“Not right away,” she said.
“Good,” the boy replied. “Because I have a lot to explain to it.” 😄
